Professor Ghiasi and his group explore design and optimization of embedded and programmable systems, where computing systems are developed to serve dedicated applications, possibly interfacing the two digital and physical worlds. Examples include computing systems that are integrated in medical devices, airplanes, cell phones, network switches, and portable gaming devices. He studies several different aspects of embedded systems, including embedded platforms, embedded software, compilation and system-level design automation.
Current projects include synthesis and optimization of streaming software for execution on embedded multi-core platforms, design and evaluation of highly-parallel reconfigurable architectures for scalable and accurate inspection of network traffic, and development of cyber-physical system for monitoring and mentoring of physical therapy drills.
