Because of the growing amount of email I receive from non-UC Davis students, I make the following requests.

Currently-enrolled UC Davis students

If you would like to participate in research in areas in which I am interested, I would like to talk with you so please contact me to set up an appointment.

Students admitted to but not yet attending UC Davis

If you have a strong academic record and you feel your background and interests are a good match, feel free to contact me. If you do write, please send me a short plain-text, 80-column summary of your education, class rank, key courses with grades, related projects, and your work experience or publications. Ideal candidates have an outstanding academic record and a background in one or more of these four areas: digital signal processing, processor architectures, CMOS circuit design, and VLSI design. Other helpful skills include proficiency using: unix, scripting (csh, perl, C), verilog, Cadence/Synopsys/Mentor tools, matlab, hspice, and tcl/tk.

Students with top academic records are encouraged to write regardless of background if interests match.

Other prospective students

I invite and encourage you to submit your application to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. More details on the application process are available at http://gradstudies.ucdavis.edu/prospective-students/admissions-application

If you have an especially strong academic record and you feel your background and interests are a good match, feel free to contact me with the information listed above. If you do choose to write, please indicate near the top of your email that you have read this web page, otherwise I will likely skim and delete it. Due to virus concerns, I will immediately delete all MS Word attachments. Otherwise, at this point, the best course of action is for you to apply to the department and we can talk further once you are admitted. The best of luck in the application process.
