A Decision-Theoretical Approach to
The variety of services envisioned in the future
cyberinfrastructure will result in rich traffic dynamics: traffic load changing over time and space in
wide range, traffic pattern assuming various heterogeneous and directional forms, and services requiring
different QoS assurance.
In this project, we develop resource-efficient traffic-adaptive MAC and routing
protocols that are reconfigurable based on the network operating conditions. Using a decision-theoretic
framework that combines networking with signal processing for traffic estimation and change detection, we develop
MAC and routing techniques that adapt to traffic dynamics in order to provide
rapid response to emergency in certain areas while the rest of the network
remains at a quiescent bandwidth and energy-saving mode.
